1. Kwaku Dua III was detained by the British colonial authorities in 1896, and sent to Sierra Leone under what was in effect arrest. He was later transferred to the Seychelles, but was allowed to return to his home in 1924. By the terms of his release, he was recognized as nothing more than the local chief of Kumasi, but the Asante people still accorded him sovereign honours. |
