Also called Acroënus or Afyon Qarahisar. A city in west-central Turkey, 150 miles (240 km.) southwest of Ankara, 65 miles (105 km.) southeast of Kütahya. It's Seljuq conquerors changed the name to Qara Hisar (Black Fortress), but in later times it took on the name of Afyon (Opium), from the poppy farms in the area.
